All of us move through life with feet on the ground, but how many of us can say we truly feel grounded?
To feel grounded is something deeper. It's that inexplicable sense of being present in your body, steady in your thoughts, and in sync with the world around you. It's the feeling of balance returning ~ not because everything outside of you has become still, but because something within you has softened enough to meet the moment as it is.
At The Royal Madikwe, this sense of grounding comes naturally.
Here, the bushveld has its own rhythm, and almost without realising it, guests begin to move with it. Mornings start with the first light and in winter even sooner, with the calls of doves or francolins in the distance. The air is cool, the coffee is fresh, and the day begins not with unsettling alarms or long to-do lists but with birdsong and anticipation for what the wilderness will soon reveal.
On game drives, time changes shape altogether. Minutes are no longer measured by the next task, but by the scenes right in front of you and the sightings still to come. There is no need to hurry (unless of course, ranger Ernie has a special surprise up his sleeve!). But ultimately, the bush never performs on command and that is part of its greatest gift. It teaches us to wait, to watch, to listen and to trust that something meaningful is always unfolding.
Back at the lodge, the pace on safari softens even further. From nourishing meals enjoyed at leisure to relaxing moments on your private deck watching elephants at the waterhole. Rest becomes less of a pressing need and more of a natural response to the day’s rhythm where even the simple act of sitting still begins to feel restorative.
There is a saying that there are always flowers for those who wish to see them, and in the bushveld this feels especially true. Beauty is everywhere, but it often asks us to slow down enough to notice it first. Indeed, to be grounded here is not to escape the world but to return to it differently. With clearer eyes, a quieter mind, and a heart more open to the good that is always there, waiting to be seen.
