Some partnerships evolve naturally. Not with a grand idea or launch event, but through a relationship that deepens over time, guided by shared values and a growing sense that there is more to explore together.
Africology has been part of our guest experience for many years, with their bath and shower products finding pride of place in our suites and their body oils and balms forming part of our spa offering. Over time, these products have become more than in-house amenities but central to the sensory language of a stay with us.
For those who may not know, Africology is a luxury, natural and eco-conscious South African skincare brand, fragranced with pure essential oils and rooted in the healing intelligence of African botanicals. Their signature ingredients include marula, rooibos, aloe and African potato, each chosen not only for its skincare benefits but for its connection to the continent.
As Jessica Droganis, Marketing Coordinator at Africology, explains: “Africa is home to some of the world's most remarkable healing plants, many of which have been used by local communities for generations. What makes these ingredients special is not only their efficacy, but also the stories and traditions behind them.”
“Marula is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids, rooibos is naturally soothing and protective, aloe has incredible restorative properties, and African potato has long been valued for its wellness benefits. For us, these ingredients are a celebration of Africa's natural intelligence and a reminder that some of the most powerful solutions are found in nature itself.”
This connection between place and product is exactly what makes Africology a fitting choice for The Royal Madikwe. Both brands are rooted in the natural beauty and heritage of Africa, and both understand that true luxury is not only about what guests see but what they feel.
“At its heart, Africology is about helping people reconnect: with themselves, with nature, and with a slower, more intentional way of living. A safari experience does exactly the same thing. When you're in the bush, surrounded by vast landscapes, wildlife and stillness, something shifts. People naturally become more present.”
It is this shared philosophy that is guiding the next chapter of our partnership.
One of the most exciting recent developments is the introduction of the new Royal Madikwe Safari Kit, created in collaboration with the Africology team. Envisaged as a wellness ‘survival kit’ for stays in the bushveld, it includes selected safari essentials such as SPF30, body lotion, natural spring water mist, citronella spray, lip balm and a rose wipe. Beautifully packaged inside a khaki-coloured shoulder bag, it’s not only perfect for carrying the essentials on safari but also great for taking a piece of the Royal back home with you.
For Jessica, these smaller details are often what create the deepest impressions. “A soothing body balm after a game drive or a sleep ritual before bed can transform a simple moment into something memorable. These touchpoints help create a sense of care and consideration, and they reinforce the feeling that every aspect of the guest experience has been thoughtfully designed.”
The new Safari Kit is only one part of a wider journey. Alongside the in-suite amenities, our partnership has also expanded into signature Africology spa treatments, therapist training and a continued refinement of the overall guest wellness experience. For us, the intention is to create something that feels authentic to The Royal; deeply considered and entirely in harmony with our setting.
“The goal is not simply to fragrance a space, but to create an emotional connection that guests carry with them long after they leave,” Jessica echoes.
And perhaps that is where the true beauty of this collaboration lies. Not simply in the products themselves but in the feelings they help create. A moment of cool mist after a warm game drive, the feeling of dewy skin after a full day in the sun, the grounding scent of essential oils before bed, and the simple assurance that every detail has been chosen with care.
At The Royal Madikwe, wellness has always been connected to nature and with Africology, we are deepening that connection, one thoughtful touchpoint at a time.
