When staying five-star, there’s an expectation that every aspect of the guest experience should feel thoughtful and exceptional, right down to the smallest detail. So, when the time came to upgrade our fitness suite, we knew we wanted something more than simply functional equipment. We wanted pieces that reflected the same level of care, beauty, and intention found throughout the rest of the lodge experience.
That search led us straight to Paragon Studio, a London-based company renowned for creating bespoke luxury fitness products for some of the world’s most refined spaces. From their award-winning Diabolo Dumbbells to their range of yoga and boxing accessories as well as elegant storage solutions, every item is considered with both beauty and functionality in mind.
For Paragon Studio, the collaboration also marked something entirely new.
“While we have worked extensively within the hospitality sector, this was the first time our range had been used in a safari setting,” explains Paragon’s Brand & Marketing Manager, Andriana Gkavanasiou. “This was a great opportunity to see our products integrated into such a unique environment, and to explore how luxury fitness can exist within more remote and experience-led destinations.”
The project came together under a particularly tight timeline, met on both sides with enthusiasm and a shared commitment to quality. “We were incredibly excited when Royal Madikwe first reached out,” Andriana shares. “As a brand we have worked across luxury residential, hospitality and superyacht projects, but this presented a completely new and inspiring setting for us.”
One of the defining characteristics of the Paragon range is its use of natural materials, particularly the beautifully crafted wooden handles featured across many of the products.
“We chose wood not only because it brings warmth and tactility to the training experience, but also because it offers a more environmentally responsible alternative to conventional gym materials.”
That tactile quality feels especially fitting within our wilderness surroundings, where wellness naturally becomes less about intensity and more about connection to inner wellbeing and to the surrounding landscape.
“Movement and wellness in nature aligns very naturally with our philosophy as a brand,” Andriana explains. “We’ve always believed that training environments should feel inspiring and connected to the wider space around them.”
As luxury travel increasingly embraces wellness as part of the broader guest experience, expectations around fitness spaces have evolved too. “We’ve seen a real shift towards wellness becoming a much more integrated part of the luxury travel experience, rather than an afterthought. Travellers no longer want purely functional gym spaces; they want beautifully designed environments that are aligned with the overall hospitality experience.”
And perhaps nowhere is that philosophy more evident than here at Royal Madikwe.
“The lodge sits above open grassland, the reserve stretching out to the horizon… We picture a guest moving through a session surrounded by that landscape, wildlife visible in the middle distance, the setting utterly removed from a conventional gym. That's the point.”
It's this balance: between movement and stillness, performance and presence, luxury and untamed nature, that makes the new fitness suite feel so uniquely Royal Madikwe. Because here, even your workout should feel unforgettable.
